involving the future of general david petraeus, director of the cia. talk about this for a second. you and chuck and i have been communicating about it. i'm told that he was at the white house yesterday, that while the people he was supposed to meet with yesterday at langley were told he had gone for a meeting with the president, in fact, did not see the president personally yesterday, that he is expected to see the president later today. this is still all in progress. that it is not now accurate to say that he will be leaving the administration or that any resignation has been offered or requested. but as we all know, there have been some tensions. a lot of controversy over benghazi. he and the president were never close initially during the transition period when the president was running for office and then during the transition when he was coming into office. and brian, david petraeus has been a star and a star player, but this has been an awkward transition at best over at the cia. anything you want to add to that are or check? >> some of the initial coverage when he was named a f

, led to paula broadwell who led to david petraeus and the relationship that was then uncovered. how did general allen get into this mix? >> your question has the answer in it. basically, jill kelley complained she was getting harassing e-mails. the fbi eventually found who was sending the e-mails, but that caused them to look at both the e-mails that jill kelley was receiving and the ones that paula broadwell was sending. in the midst of looking at the e-mails jill kelley was receiving here are all these messages from general allen. so, you know, they -- the obviously concluded there was no crime in the e-mail exchanges he had with her, but they felt it should be referred to the defense department as a personnel matter, which is the same phrase they used when they told the director of national intelligence, general clapper, about what petraeus was doing. no crime in that what turned out to be an adulterous relationship, but the boss should know. >> the other thing that happened overnight we were watching real time as ten fbi agents arrived in charlotte at the home of paula broadwell and

hill, and it's going to be all involved david petraeus. >> former general david petraeus testifying on the hill, andrea. i heard at the top of the show kelly o'donnell talking about how they're doing it in the morning, and they're hoping it's not going to be a circus. it's going to be a circus. this story, i think, has captivated people whether it's for the tawdry elements or petrae petraeus's high profile, he's there to talk about benghazi and the four people including ambassador chris stevens who died there. not to talk about the reason that he resigned, this extra-marital affair. i think it's going to be something close to a circus, which is unfortunate because i think there are legitimate questions on benghazi. i'm sure they'll get asked anyway, but my guess is they'll be overshadowed a little bit by the coverage by the fact he's out there for one of the first times since all of this information has come to light. >> and circling back to things mentioned earlier about susan rice. her office said she went on the sunday talk shows to talk about foreign policy in general. it's not
